Currently, Cannon Heritage is conducting excavation and data recovery efforts at site 26EK16689 in Elko County, Nevada near the city of West Wendover. So far, CHC has excavated over 100 square meters of a site with Paleoindian through Historic Period artifacts. Pre-contact levels have revealed an open-air, buried site that at one time was on the edge of a now dry marshland. Open air sites with multiple levels of occupation are rare in the Great Basin and the findings from this project provide a significant contribution to our understanding of the prehistoric past.
